VM-Ware / Citrix detection

Would it be possible to detect if the OS is running in a virtual environment like VM-Ware or Virual PC or that the application is running under Citrix or Terminal Server?

Sometimes an application runs fine on standard systems but produces errors when running on a Terminal Server or Citrix. Other applications behave weirdly under a vitual system like VM-Ware.
