Eurekalog doesn't trap some kinds of exception in a Server COM

Hi, I developed a COM server with Delphi and I compiled it with
EurekaLog. I've noticed that some kind of exceptions like
EAccessViolation are not trapped. Other exception like EConvertError
are correctly trapped. Is this a limitation of that kind of programs?

Eurekalog 7 - call stack on demand

We are monitoring our programs running on a server and we like to pull in call stack on demand. If the programs are responsive then they can pull in call stacks on their own and forward the data for monitoring purposes. Things get tricky when programs are unresponsive.

We can check the call stack of running programs by converting map file to dbg format and then using the SysInternals Process Explorer tool. We would like to automate this process. Does the Eurekalog 7 provide functionality/tools for checking call stack of currently running programs (even when main thread is busy).

Memory Error

Alex,

When running the application I am watching the memory for the application in the task manager continually increase by increments of 30 to 1000 bytes each time a record is processed until eventually the program terminates with an out of memory condition.

This tells me there is a memory leak. I was assuming (as EurekaLog had done in the past) provide a log showing the location of the memory leak(s). I do not get that. Is there something I’m doing wrong?

EBorDebugIndexError with v7

Hi,

When compiling with v7 option in EL v6.1.04, I get the following error: EBorDebugIndexError, Index 35337 out of valid range 0..35336. IDE: C++Builder2006.

It does not happen for very small projects, only with larger projects.

The bug report is probably already in your database. But when sending this through the support form, I got no email reply, so therefore I post it now in the forum.

It is the control with the focus at the time of the screen shot. It can be useful to know which control the user was accessing at the time of the exception - hence the highlighting.

Win64 Support

I have spent a great deal of time to get out application components and libraries working for 64 bit compilation for our customers running Win7 64. To do so, I have had to remove Eurekalog since it does not contain DCUs and OBJs for 64 bit support.

Is there an update that I am not aware of, or a document that details
how I can recompile Eurekalog for 64 bit?

Freeze Not Reporting

I have a Delphi XE application that will freeze after several hours of use but EurekaLog will not report on it. I have the Anti-Freeze set to 240 seconds.
When I finally terminate the app I get the standard Win7 dialog.

Any suggestions.

I want to completely switch from version 6 registered to EurekaLog 7 because of the 64 bit support.
I check often for the new trial builds to make sure I have the latest build of the version 7.
Unfortunately, I have several problems, I guess easy to fix, that I reported in details to feedback and support.
However, I didn't receive any answer or any sign that these are taken into account. In the new builds, the same problems are not fixed.
Thanks to several options available I was able to make a working build that can report exceptions on Windows 7 64 bit, not in XP 64 bits.

I'm a bit disappointed even if your email server is eating the emails. If this is the case, you are losing important user feedback besides wasting our time and creating frustration.

Bug in function GetEurekaLogModuleVersion

Hi,
I'm using Builder XE with EurekaLog 6.1.04.
Now I need to use function GetEurekaLogModuleVersion, but there is problem:
- when module is built with options "Use EurekaLog 7 compiler" off, returned value is 6104, this is correct
- when module is built with options "Use EurekaLog 7 compiler" on, returned value is 6100, I think it's bug

I've problems with compiler version 6, so I need to use version 7, but I need to have correct information about EL version too.

Post to mantis 1.2.10 do not work

there is a problem with posting bugs to mantis with Eurekalog 6.1.4. There were changes in Mantis and http input field for uploaded file was changed. New name is ufile[] instead of file. There is a new hidden field (max_file_size) also.

Whoa! - hold on there dude...

Don't kill the messenger.  EurekaLog is only doing what the developer told it to do - send error logs back to the developer.

Look at it this way:  Things could be worse...

In my apps, the "customer" has _no choice at all_.  All Error logs are immediately sent whether they like it or not - because I write software for a corporation, the employees do not have a choice to abort the log transmission at all.

_I intentionally programmed EurekaLog to do this._

Why?

I need all logs, stack traces, screen shots, Etc in *every single case*,
not just when the user thinks it is important, or is not looking at porn using a corporate computer at the time.  I do not even pop up a dialog box to give the user an opportunity to abort the send.

That said, it is up to the developer of the software you purchased to configure EurekaLog in a way to make you happy. The developer of your software needs to change how the EurekaLog dialogs work if it does not make you happy.

You should complain to *your* software developer, since it is they who designed/implemented the EurekaLog user interface.  It is up to the developer to ask you "pretty please" if you would like to send the logs or not - or do like I do and not even inform you at all.

Any logging software can be misused. You need to have this discussion
with the developer, not EurekaLog personnel.

A memory overrun is when you allocate some memory on the heap and then write past the end of it. As in allocating an array with 10 elements and writing to the 11th (or 111th) one.

If there is nothing critical in the memory adjacent to the one in which
you overrun, then your app won't actually fail, but it is obviously not
a good thing to do. If you rewrite your program at some future date and
now the adjacent data IS critical, then your program will crash or
behave badly.

I'd have to see your log for more details.

You might want to turn on range checking in your compiler - that catches most array overruns right when it happens.

Multi-monitor

I am not sure how the touch screen would work in that environment though. My guess is that Windows would treat it as another mouse device and (hopefully) constrain touch input to the single touch screen monitor. Your normal mouse should be able to span all your monitors. If so, you would be able to click on modal dialog boxes on the touch screen monitor.

You may also be able to configure your touch screen driver to accept
taps on the screen as mouse clicks.
